Closet organization with a walk in closet and closet systems

Closets are essential storage spaces for items around the house. This is the reason why we have closets in almost every part of the home – the kitchen, garage, bedroom, living room, or office. However, more often than not, closets are used for the wardrobe. There are different types of wardrobe closets for the home. These include reach-in closets, walk-in closets or open-wall closets.

Walk-in closets usually require a wide area for improvement. As the name suggests, these closets enable owners to walk around it. These are feasible for people who have many wardrobe pieces. Thus a walk in closet is commonly owned by celebrities. On the other hand, open-wall closets are efficient for homes that have limited space. The closet is installed on a wall, with no doors, wall dividers or dimensions.

Reach-in closets are perhaps the most common type of closets used in homes because these only require a small area for improvement. An advantage of these closets is that the items are only at arms-reach. Thus, it does not take long to find or to take the items needed compared to walk-in. Moreover, these closets are equipped with doors that protect the items from dust or dirt.

Practically any space can be turned into a reach-in closet. Here are some steps in achieving a great closet for your home:

1. Choose an area for your closet. If you have a ready-made reach-in closet, take everything out of it. Clean the area and assess the closet parts if they are still usable. Remove the dilapidated parts or the entire closet parts for a major makeover.

2. Find a closet layout that will fit your needs. You can browse magazines or the Internet for layout designs. Otherwise, visit your nearest home shop for closet designs and closet layouts.

3. If you have no time to waste, there are so-called closet systems that can be installed within closets to allow for a more organized layout. These are ready-made wood, metal or wire systems that already include shelves, baskets, or hanging rods. The closet layout is already planned out for owners to follow. These are very easy to assemble requiring only basic hand tools and the detailed instructions come with the package.

4. Purchase additional parts you need for your closet makeover, and then assemble them into your closet.

5. You can add decorations to your closet by painting it, or adding attractive wallpapers and such.

6. Once the closet parts are held in place, turn to the items that you plan to place in the closet. Segregate these into the things that you really need and the things that are no longer usable. Discard unusable items.

7. Place the items into the closet. If the items are still too many to fit into the closet, segregate further. Sometimes, we have a tendency to cling on to items that are unusable. This is the reason why closets are often filled with unnecessary garbage. As a result, closets become cluttered and hard to organize. Call friends or family to help you discard. Otherwise, if you do not discard, your closet as well as your house will remain in a state of clutter.
