How to Choose the Right Pieces for Your Outdoor Bar and Grill

When putting together an outdoor bar and grill, the three main areas to choose your furniture are your bar tables, your bar stools, and your grill. One must consider materials, designs, practicality, cost, and for the grill, the heating type.

Bar Tables

For bar tables, one must consider the width, design, and height of your bar table. Will your guests be standing or sitting, and will there be lots of them or will you generally have smaller gatherings? If you have fewer guests and they will sometimes stand and sometimes sit, you should consider a round high table or at least some sorts of high table sets suited to a small outdoor bar. The drop leaf table, normally only used as an indoor table, can be appropriate for this purpose. On the other hand, if you have more guests and they will be sitting, consider a large round outdoor table. This sort of large bar table can double as a dining table for al fresco dining.

Bar Stools

One has to consider whether elevated bar stools or simply traditional outdoor patio seats are more appropriate for their garden. Patio seats are more versatile, but bar stools are more economical in terms of space. These days, the price of bar stools is highly dependent on the design, so plastic outdoor bar stools can cost the same as wrought iron outdoor bar stools. Whether you choose bar stools or patio chairs, make sure the pieces are weather and insect resistant. Wicker outdoor patio chairs and bar stools are ideal for this.

The Grill

In terms of cooking method, there are four types of grills: gas, charcoal, electric, and infrared grill. Electric and charcoal are the cheapest, with prices on amazon for these two types starting at $40 and $30 respectively. Electric is also the most convenient, but the taste is generally inferior to the other types, and you lose the experience and smell of rising smoke, one of the hallmarks of a hosting a barbeque. Charcoal has all the benefits of taste and experience, and is really the most authentic, but is quite inconvenient, as one needs to buy and lug charcoal around to get started. Gas has similar qualities to charcoal, but grills start at $130 and easily cost close to $1000. Finally, the infrared grill is somewhat unique, as it involves super heating of ceramic tiles which leads to radiation that directly cooks the food. Because of the very high temperatures, it is the fastest cooking method, and arguably has the best taste. However, it is the most expensive form of grill other than gas.

Putting it Together

The table, stools, and grill should fit together at least reasonably well. Firstly, make sure the size of the grill and the bar set match, so for instance, a huge grill should go with a spacious bar and a more compact bar set would fit with a smaller grill. Similarly, a round high table will go well with bar stools or even with standing guests, while a shorter table with a larger diameter would be better suited with patio chairs. One nice arrangement is if the bar stools are in a row all facing the same direction, reminiscent of a real bar with customers. This is also one of the most space efficient setups. Once setup properly, your outdoor bar and grill will be a place to enjoy warm moments with your guests and family.
